Not a client · Accessories # Completedworks A self-initiated jewellery campaign pairing a crumpled silver earring with a pearl drop, from salt and shell to the ear. For Completedworks, I built a quiet, tactile world around two of its earrings, a crumpled silver drop and a column of pearls ending in a baroque pearl. The still lifes place them among things from the sea and the table: an open oyster shell, coarse salt, a spoon and sheer ribbon. Then one model wears them as an odd pair, the silver in one ear and the pearl in the other. The main challenge was keeping two irregular pieces exact across the set, from every fold of the silver to every pearl in the drop. I wanted to see whether AI could hold jewellery with nothing regular about it. Completedworks is a real jewellery brand, and this is concept work: it is not a client, it did not commission these images, and no affiliation is implied. I chose it because its pieces are sculptural, and sculptural pieces are among the hardest to keep the same from one frame to the next. The two earrings are opposites. The silver is a long, narrow drop, creased and folded as if it had been crumpled in the hand, satin in the hollows and bright on the ridges, and it reflects whatever is near it. The pearl drop is a column of pearls that seem to glow from inside: a teardrop at the lobe, round pearls growing in size with flat white discs between them, and a baroque pearl at the end, irregular by nature. Every frame is made with AI, and nothing in the set was photographed. The finished set is seven portrait frames: three still lifes, two close-ups of the silver earring worn, and two portraits that show both earrings on the model. ## The direction The world comes from the sea and the table. An oyster shell appears in two of the still lifes: beside the pair on coarse salt, and behind a polished spoon where the crumpled earring rests in the bowl, creased silver against smooth. The palette stays close to those materials: sage, oyster, silver, salt white and a pale, clouded blue, with one darker frame where the spoon lies on deep green-grey. The light stays soft throughout, so each crease in the silver reads as a change of tone. Ribbon ties the two halves together. A cream ribbon loops behind the spoon, the two earrings hang from a sheer ribbon against sage, and on the model the ribbon becomes sheer organza bows tied along her ponytail. I cast one woman, with slicked-back blonde hair, freckles and very little make-up, in a sheer white blouse against a mottled pale blue backdrop. She wears the earrings as an odd pair, the silver in one ear and the pearl in the other, so a single portrait shows [what both pieces do on a body](https://bilder-studio.com/journal/jewellery-photography/). In one frame the silver appears only in a hand mirror. ## What was hard The crumpled silver is the harder of the two to keep exact. A chain or a plain hoop has a rule an image can follow. A crumpled surface has none, so any fold can quietly change between frames, and a changed fold makes a different earring. It has to keep its length, outline and creases at every scale, from the spoon to the full portrait, where it hangs small beside her jaw. The pearl drop needs a different kind of care. Its column has an order, and that order has to hold whether the drop hangs from a ribbon, lies on salt or falls beside her neck. Pearl also takes light differently from metal. The silver needs reflections to show its shape, the pearl needs soft light to show its lustre, and in the still lifes the same light has to serve both. Sheer fabric is the other test: the ribbon crossing over itself, the bows over her hair and the blouse over her shoulders all have to stay see-through, with their folds still readable.
