# AI product photography *questions, answered*

AI can do most of the product photography a brand needs, when someone directs it and finishes every frame by hand. I'm Naomi Bilder, and that's how I work at Bilder Studio in Manchester. Below are short, plain answers to what brands ask about it, from accuracy and price to rights and when a photograph is better.

## How AI product photography works

### Can AI do product photography?

Yes. Hero shots, texture and detail, the product in use or on a model, and campaign worlds can all be made this way. AI is the instrument, and the direction and the finishing are mine. What it can't do is guess, so your product has to be clear in your references first. [My concept work](https://bilder-studio.com/work/) shows the results.

### What is AI product photography?

It's product imagery made with AI tools rather than shot on a set. In my work, the images are made with AI from your product references, then retouched and finished by hand. If you'd rather, you can send me the product and I'll photograph it myself with my own professional camera. There's more about [how I work](https://bilder-studio.com/about/).

### Which AI is best for product photography?

There isn't a single best one, because it depends on the job. Lettering on a label, a face that recurs across a set and a reflective bottle each ask something different of a tool. I use several and choose by testing them on the actual product and brief. I explain how in my guide to [keeping AI product images consistent](https://bilder-studio.com/journal/consistent-brand-look-across-ai-images/).

### Can I make AI product photos myself?

Yes. Plenty of apps will put a product on a new background, and with a self-service tool the decisions and checks stay with you. A commissioned project adds the direction, the choice of the right frame from many that are nearly right, and the finishing. That's [why I don't price by the image](https://bilder-studio.com/pricing/#why).

## Accuracy and your product

### Will my product look exactly like the real one?

Yes. That's the standard every frame is held to. I work from your references, give the product a master image and take its scale from real measurements, then check each new frame against them. Whatever has drifted, I fix by hand before delivery. My lifestyle page shows [how I keep a product the same in every scene](https://bilder-studio.com/ai-lifestyle-product-photography/).

### Can AI get the text on my packaging right?

Yes, because I don't leave it to the AI. Legal and regulatory copy is set from your artwork rather than generated, so it stays exact and legible. The logo and the rest of the lettering are checked against your references in every frame and fixed by hand where they've drifted. More on [keeping a beauty product accurate](https://bilder-studio.com/ai-beauty-product-photography/).

### Can you keep my product consistent across a whole set?

Yes, and holding one look from the first frame to the last is most of the craft. We agree what may change, such as the composition or a gesture, and what must stay recognisable. Then each new frame is checked against your references and the frames already finished. [HYDRA](https://bilder-studio.com/work/hydra/), my own concept brand, shows a full set.

### Can AI product photography include a model?

Yes. The people in my images are generated and cast for your brand, so there's no model to book and no release to clear. A reference sheet for each person keeps the same face through the set. A real founder or ambassador as themselves is a different job, with its own permissions. More on [holding a cast](https://bilder-studio.com/ai-fashion-photography/).

### Can I get product images before my samples arrive?

Often. What matters is whether the product is defined clearly enough to show accurately, so a render, the packaging artwork with its dimensions, or photographs of a pre-production sample will do. An idea alone won't. My OSSA concept went from a hand-drawn sketch to a full campaign before any piece existed, as my [jewellery page](https://bilder-studio.com/ai-jewellery-photography/) explains.

## Price and process

### How much does AI product photography cost?

At Bilder Studio, a Pilot test project costs £150 to £400, and a Full Project starts at £750. Each is priced by the effort it takes, and the Pilot fee comes off your next project if you continue. Prices exclude VAT where it applies. The [pricing page](https://bilder-studio.com/pricing/) sets out what each includes and what changes the price.

### Is AI product photography always cheaper than a photoshoot?

Not always. With AI there may be no location to hire, set to build or shoot day to pay for, but developing the direction, making the images and finishing them is still real work. Compare quotes for the same brief and check what each one covers. My [product photography cost guide](https://bilder-studio.com/journal/ai-product-photography-beauty-brands/) sets out published UK prices and what they include.

### How long does AI product photography take?

It depends on the scope and on how quickly feedback comes back, so there's no single turnaround I could honestly promise. We set the dates together at the brief, around your launch, and I develop the first version once we've agreed the direction. Here is [how a project runs](https://bilder-studio.com/pricing/#process), from the call to the final files.

### What do I need to send you?

Good images of the product from several angles, or the product itself if you'd rather I photographed it, with the packaging artwork, the dimensions, where the images will run and the date you need them. You don't need a finished brief: I send a short questionnaire before work starts. My [brief template](https://bilder-studio.com/journal/product-photography-brief-template/) covers the rest.

### Do you work with brands outside Manchester?

Yes. I'm in Manchester and I work with brands anywhere, by email and a free 30-minute discovery call. On the call we talk through your brand, the product and where the images will run, with no obligation. I speak English, Ukrainian, Hebrew and Russian. The [contact page](https://bilder-studio.com/contact/) has every way to reach me.

## Rights and disclosure

This is general information, not legal advice. For the legal side of your own project, speak to your lawyer.

### Who owns AI-generated product images?

Under my terms, unless we agree otherwise, commercial rights to the final delivered work transfer to you once the project has been fully paid for. Whether an AI image is also protected by copyright depends on how it was made. I go through [who owns AI images in the UK](https://bilder-studio.com/journal/commercial-rights-ai-brand-imagery/), and what to ask before you commission.

### Can I use AI-generated images for my business?

Yes, in ads, on your website, in print and on packaging, as long as the rights cover that use and the finished image meets the platform's rules and the advertising codes. With my work, full commercial rights transfer to you once the project has been fully paid for, with no usage windows. More on [usage rights in a commercial quote](https://bilder-studio.com/journal/commercial-product-photography/).

### Is it illegal to use an AI photo generator?

It depends on what you create and how you use it. Check the tool’s commercial-use terms, any rights or permissions needed for the content, and the rules that apply where the image will appear. For advertising, AI-generated imagery must meet the same standards as other ads, including not misleading customers. Read more in my [guide to image rights](https://bilder-studio.com/journal/commercial-rights-ai-brand-imagery/).

### Do you have to disclose AI-generated images?

In the UK there's no blanket legal requirement to disclose AI in ads. The ASA's [guidance on disclosure](https://www.asa.org.uk/news/disclosure-of-ai-in-advertising-striking-the-balance-between-creativity-and-responsibility.html) asks whether people would be misled without it. Platforms and other markets set their own rules, so check with whoever signs off your advertising. I label my own work as AI-made, and I'll tell you how each image was made.

## When a photograph is better

### When is a photograph the better choice?

When a contract, a regulation or the brief itself needs newly captured photographs, or when you'd rather work on set with a photographer, a stylist and a cast. Some briefs suit a mix of the two, and if a photograph fits yours better, I'll say so on our call. There's more in [my comparison with a photoshoot](https://bilder-studio.com/journal/ai-product-photography-vs-photoshoot/).

### Is AI replacing photographers?

Not in my view. A photoshoot captures the product with a camera, an AI project develops the scene from references, and both can be directed with the same care. They suit different briefs, and some projects use both. I photograph products myself, with my own professional camera, when a brand would rather send the product than photographs of it.
